On Tuesday, May 5th, Jakobe is scheduled to have tubes put in his ears. Ear tubes are tiny cylinders placed through the ear drum to allow air into the middle ear. We are nervous and excited at the same time. Jakobe will be given a light anesthetic which makes us super nervous. Just the thought of my little one being 'put under' scares the hell out me. However, knowing that he will no longer have to suffer from his painful ear infections, restore his hearing loss (he was hearing 40% less), and improve his balance problems makes us feel much more comfortable about the surgery. The surgery should be a huge success and even though we are nervous it should make a huge difference in his life. He is getting short term tubes which typically stay in place for six months to a year before falling out on their own.
I will be sure to keep you all posted as to how his surgery goes.

I am sorry that Jakobe has to have tubes put in :( But I know so many kids who've had them and it sounds like a pretty simple, painless experience. Still, I know it's never any fun when your baby has to be put under! On a different subject, there is a tag for you on my blog! http://momwriterme.blogspot.com/2009/05/tag-award.html
