Jakobe has been fighting an ear infection for 2 weeks now. He was put on
Amoxicillin. Tuesday night was our worst night ever.
Jakobe was up the entire night just screaming and thrashing his arms and legs. We knew he was in pain and knew it was his ear because he was digging his face into the mattress. We were up the entire night with him. I already had a doctor appointment scheduled for the following morning at 9:40. Around 9:15 that morning all of a sudden he stopped crying. He was then very calm and content. It was very strange. The doctor took one look inside his ear and said that he had ruptured his ear drum. His ear was completely filled with goop. I felt absolutely horrible. She said that all of the pressure built up in his ear and it finally burst. That's why he was screaming all night. She said it is SO painful. Then when it burst he wasn't in any pain any more. I'm guessing that around 9:15 is when it ruptured because that's when he stopped crying. She cleaned out his ear and he was put on a different antibiotic. If his
meds don't work this time they will put tubes in his ears. I asked her if this would affect his hearing. She said 99% of the time it does not. She said it was good I brought him in when I did because if this goes untreated it can have an effect on his hearing. She said he will have a hard time hearing for a while until a new ear drum grows back. He goes back on Tuesday for his 4 months check up and she's going to take a look at his ear then. He is doing better now. I can tell his ear is still bothering him but he's not screaming in agony. Poor guy. The pictures above are taken before we left for his doctors appointment. You can see by the expression on his face that he's hurting.
