Putting on his 'band aids' |

He fell asleep before she was done hooking him up. |
Jakobe had his sleep study on Friday, June 3rd. He has always had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I'd say on average, he wakes up 3-6 times each night. We aren't sure why he is waking up. He has been in the habit of sleeping in bed with us bc we have learned after hours and hours of attempts each night in his own bed, that he falls asleep better with one of us laying beside him. (There comes a point when you will do anything to just get your kid to fall asleep). So, for years he has slept in bed with us. One problem with his sleeping is that he has to be touching you when he's falling asleep and even asleep. This includes rubbing on your face and arms. He also has to lay right up next to you....so even though we have a King size bed, I usually would end up with half my body hanging off the bed. No joke! He is a very restless sleeper, head ends up where his feet should be, or I get a kick to the ribs in the middle of the night. He is all over the place. He has never ever been a good sleeper. Another concern of ours was that he wakes up for no reason numerous times in the middle of the night. So, we finally went and saw a sleep specialist to try to get some answers. We find out the results the beginning of July. As for now, Dr. Grant gave David and I some homework. We have to get Jakobe out of our bed. He suggested a very good book to me that would walk us through the steps to getting him out of our bed and into his own bed. So far so good. Jakobe has now falling asleep in his own bed without us, stayed in his bed the entire night and STAYED ASLEEP the entire night for 3 nights in a row now!!! I'm beginning to think that his sleep problems were bc he was sleeping in bed with us! As for now, he has been doing amazing and he is a whole new kid! We don't have to fight with him for hours every night to get him to go to bed! It's been awesome! I'll be sure to keep you up to date on how he is sleeping and what his sleep results give us.
Sleep Study: Jakobe did absolutely amazing the entire night of his sleep study. We had to get there at 8:00 pm. We packed his suitcase and brought his pillow. When we got there, Anna, took us to his room and let us get settled in. We went and made popcorn and then Jakobe sat down with her as she began putting all the 'bandaids' on him as we called it! 2 on each leg, 2 on his stomach, 2 on his chest, one on his neck, numerous all around his face....she got this far and he started to get very tired and wanted to lay down. So, about 9:15 he actually fell asleep with all this stuff hooked up to him. (It was much easier than I thought) So, while he was sleeping she hooked the rest up on his head. He had 3 on the back of his head, 2 on top of his head, and then one in his nose (this was the worst one for him). So, she then hooked up all the wires (dozens of them) and hooked it up the machine. She left and he slept while I texted people in the recliner next to him. He did very good the entire night based on him having wires and band aids all over him and his face. Wires were coming out of everywhere, his pant legs, his waistband, his shirt, his face. It wasn't a very pretty site to see him all hooked up. He slept like he did every night at home. He would wake up for no reason, just like at home. I ended up laying in bed with him the entire night (note laying, not sleeping) bc every time he would move or wake up, he would try to pull the wires off his face. He ripped one off and it actually ripped part of his skin off of his cheek :( I had to lay next to him and hold his arms down while he slept. The worst part was that Anna, (who watched him on video the entire night) rushed in 3 times during the night and said the cords were wrapped around his neck (once) and his stomach (twice) from him tossing and turning so much (just like at home). So that was pretty scary bc we had to try to get all the cords off of him while keeping them connected and trying to keep him asleep. That was the worst part. The sleep study ended at 6am which was about the normal time he wakes up. He was up and ready to go get some breakfast! I felt like I had been hit by a cement truck! I had less than 2 hours total sleep AND was recovering from Strep Throat!!! I did ask Anna if she saw anything abnormal when she was watching all this brain waves and movements. She said she didn't see anything alarming, but the Dr. will go over it all. She said he is definitely a restless sleeper though! Jakobe and I went and got breakfast and headed home. He did such an amazing job, I couldn't have asked for him to do any better! So, I promised him a trip to the Zoo that day with Sissy! Now we will just have to wait and see what the results show us.
