The First Few Days of Recovery.

He got to eat lots and lots of ice cream and popsicles. It took him almost 5 hours from when he got home from surgery to attempt to suck on a popsicle. Later on was followed by ice cream.

Papa got him a new golf bag and clubs.

Kobe received lots of gifts. Including new dinosaur bedding (behind Callie) a dinosaur shirt, and a giant dinosaur that Callie is holding here. He deserved all of it!

Kobe's Surgery 9.1.11

He's all ready to go in for surgery to have his adenoids and tonsils removed.

Jakobe didn't really know why he was at the hospital. I told him that he was going to go to sleep and wake up with an owie in his throat. He said, "No Mommy, I don't want an owie". I told him it would be OK and he would get to eat a lot of ice cream.

He went back with one of the nurse's without a fight. I told him to go find Mommy a dinosaur egg (his golf ball inside a Playtex glove) so he walked back in search of a dinosaur egg :)

The actual surgery took an hour. It was 3 hours before we were able to see him in the recovery room. He was very grogy and kept going in and out of sleep. I held him like a baby. He started to come with it a little bit and was beginning to panic about his IV in his hand. He wanted it out and wanted it out now! He thrashed and cried and kept trying to pull it out. Finally about 10 minutes later the nurse said she called the Dr. and he gave her the OK to remove his IV. We had to stay in recovery for about an hour. Finally they discharged him and we went home.

The first 3 days were amazing. It was like he had never had surgery. Eating everything in site, jumping off furniture, playing, ect.

Then days 4, 5, 6, and 7 came. Horrible. He was in horrible pain. Wouldn't eat, couldn't sleep, couldn't swallow so he was drooling everywhere. He was just miserable. He lived on pain medication for a good 8 days straight. We were warned that days 4 and 5 were the worst and they were right. I just felt so bad for him.

He came through like the tough little guy that he is. He had to stay home from daycare for 10 days.

It's been a month now since his surgery and the latest report is that so far it has helped his eating (he eats about 4x as much as he did before) and his speech (he is using more words and they are more clear). However, it has not helped with his sleeping much. He still wakes up at least once in the middle of the night. We are still working with him to help solve this and are supposed to give it a couple months to see results. So, fingers are still crossed but the surgery has definitely been a positive change in Jakobe.

Jakobe has surgery tomorrow morning 9.1.11 to have his adenoids and tonsils removed. He had a sleep study done earlier in the year and his results came back that he has Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This surgery is known to help improve sleep, eating, and speech. David and I wanted to take the kids out the night before to let them have a fun time. We had no idea how Jakobe would feel after his surgery. The kids favorite thing of the night.........riding in the golf carts :)

Iowa State Fair August 21st, 2011

We're off to the fair (Callie stayed home with Daddy)

Kobe's new bubble gun from Nana! We had a super time at the fair this year! Kobe was so well behaved. He got to do so much there. The petting zoo, the giant slide, rode a few rides including the kiddie roller coaster, enjoyed icecream and played a few games! What a great night it was at the Iowa State Fair with Nana!
